[Qrow isn't really a festival sort of guy (forty years of your presence being Bad News for crowds will do that to you), but the meteor shower is beautiful in an uncanny sort of way, reminiscent of the shattered moon that hangs in the sky in Remnant, if those pieces were to crash down into the earth.
He makes no effort at first to join the various viewing parties, but he does settle in to watch from the fringes when one of those bugs settles on the back of his shoulderblade, and suddenly he finds himself wandering in closer, following an urge to find -- something. He's not really sure what, but the urge to keep going pushes out any instinct he might feel to question why.
Then he stumbles across Jonas. His expression brightens immediately, and a friendly arm uncharacteristically slings around the teen's shoulder.]
βugh, c'mon. (anyone with less of a vice grip on themselves might've flinched at the touch's suddenness, but jonas has been accepting other people's cometfly affections with as much grace as he can.) Qrow?
(with the indigo fly buzzing away to dutifully infect someone else, he's left to turn into qrow's hold to instigate a warm hug. this is not uncharacteristic for the witch, but it is when it lingers too long and too tightly. looks like someone's positively thrilled to see his outpost saviour's made it out of last month's full moon shenanigans alive.
pats at him ruthlessly.)
Man, tell me about it...! How're you doing? Like, what's been going on?
[Fun fact about Qrow: he is actually very unused to hugs, and receives them awkwardly. His shoulders bunch up a little reflexively as Jonas moves to shift into a full-on hug before he relaxes into it, letting his hands just kinda. Rest lightly on Jonas' back until he's ready to pull away.]
Not a lot. Found out I was becoming a vampire. Had a friend come through the mirror, too. That was a nicer surprise, at least.
[A pleasant one, considering how lonely he's been, but there's a part of Qrow that's wracked with anxiety that somehow even though Ozpin wasn't aware of his absence, it's still being felt somehow. That their presence here could mess up things in Remnant for the war with Salem.]
... oh. God, is that why youβΒ you know, freaked out at the bar? (nice way to put it jonas. leans back to give qrow a bit of space, but appreciates the hand on his back more than he'd like to admit. it's been a hard few days.
raises an eyebrow with a particularly curious tilt of his head. now this is something he wants to hear all about; a friend?)
You know 'em from home? (asked dumbly,) Who is it?
[He rubs at his neck, a little uncomfortably. For as light as his tone is, he's kind of not in a great place about the whole thing, but. Coping by not coping is how we do in this house.]
It's a good thing you got out of there when you did.
[To say he had a rough night afterward would be a hell of an understatement.]
Yeah, I try to keep my wits about me and dash before it gets too late. (a better policy than putting his own life in danger so people close to him feel obligated to, too. jonas keeps qrow under a hand, placed firmly on his shoulder.) It'd be pretty crappy of me to hang around when my friends are going through stuff.
Witches are powerful, but... full moons... (not so much.)
It'sβΒ it's not even worth thinking about. Is OzpinβΒ Ozpin? (strange name, but he's not one to judge.) Is he adjusting okay to everything?
[With his hand gripped against Qrow's shoulder, he can feel the momentary hitch as Jonas calls him his friend, so much more easily than he'd expect. Relationships have historically been hard for him to build, and he's been burned before. He's a difficult person to get to know--cynical, pessimistic, fearful of rejection--and he tends to keep his distance on top of that, always wanting to protect others from his Semblance.
So there's a thread of nervousness that passes through him when he hears that word, bridging the gap from acquaintances just like that...but he doesn't resist. The warm affectionate feelings brought on by the cometfly dampen the anxieties he feels about it at the same time as intensifies the craving for connection he's always had.
It takes him a moment to refocus himself, though, the moment of distraction likely obvious as they stand like this.]
....It's a good idea. No use putting yourself in extra danger when you're already vulnerable.
[He lets out an amused noise at Jonas' reaction to Ozpin's name; he's named after a bird and writes it in an edgy way, so it's not weird to him, but. u kno.]
He's doing alright. Helps that he already had magic before, so it's not that new.
hello i am finally here for cometflies ... strolls in late with starbucks
